Supervisor of Recreational Therapy at Mercy LIFE, a division of the Mercy Health System. A recreational therapy staff of four, along with supportive staffing, offer a variety of recreational programming for 70-90 participants who attend the center daily. The Hancock site features four flexible programming areas where services can be provided based on the participant’s physical and cognitive functioning. Occasional day trips are planned and vendors periodically come to the site to feature specialized activities such as music, art and yoga.
The recreational therapy supervisor works as part of an interdisciplinary team that is responsible for evaluation, planning and implementation of holistic care. The interdisciplinary team consists of physicians; nurse practitioners; nurses; social workers; a physical, occupational, and speech therapist; dietician and variety of supportive staff. This is one of two LIFE sites operated by Mercy with a third site opening in October 2010. The total participant population is 319.
